Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC)

The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly owned by the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat to implement metro rail projects in the state of Gujarat, India. GMRC was incorporated on 3rd February 2010 under the Companies Act, 1956.

The main objective of GMRC is to provide safe, fast, and eco-friendly transportation to the people of Gujarat through the implementation of modern metro rail systems. Currently, GMRC is involved in the construction of metro rail projects in two cities of Gujarat – Ahmedabad and Surat.

In Ahmedabad, GMRC is implementing the Phase-1 of the Metro Rail project, which covers a total distance of 40.03 km and has two corridors – North-South and East-West. The Phase-1 project is being executed in two stages – Stage-1 covers a distance of 22.8 km and has 20 stations, while Stage-2 covers a distance of 17.23 km and has 16 stations. The Ahmedabad Metro project is expected to benefit over 5 million people in the city and is being implemented at an estimated cost of INR 12,000 crore.

In Surat, GMRC is implementing the Phase-1 of the Metro Rail project, which covers a total distance of 40.35 km and has two corridors – East-West and North-South. The Phase-1 project is being executed in two stages – Stage-1 covers a distance of 21.61 km and has 20 stations, while Stage-2 covers a distance of 18.74 km and has 18 stations. The Surat Metro project is expected to benefit over 4 million people in the city and is being implemented at an estimated cost of INR 12,000 crore.
