District Rural Development Agency (DRDA)
The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) is a specialized unit of the Indian government’s Ministry of Rural Development, which was established in 1980 under the guidelines of the World Bank. The primary objective of the DRDA is to provide technical and financial assistance to rural areas in order to help them achieve sustainable development and poverty reduction.
DRDAs are responsible for implementing various rural development schemes and programmes, including poverty alleviation programmes, employment generation programmes, social welfare programmes, and infrastructure development programmes. They work closely with local governments, community organizations, and other stakeholders to identify the needs and priorities of rural communities and to develop and implement strategies to address those needs.
Each district in India has its own DRDA, which is headed by a project director. The project director is responsible for overseeing the implementation of various rural development schemes and programmes in the district, as well as coordinating with other government agencies and stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of these programmes. The DRDA plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable rural development and poverty reduction in India.
